Project Overview
The brand I chose to create new content for was OTOTO, they design functional household products with a humoristic, ironic twist. They try to infuse as much whimsy and playfulness into every product. Their unique products are distributed internationally to over 30 different countries. There was a lot of research that went into this project, including looking at their current advertisements, direct competitors, visual analysis and lastly making a mind map to find out exactly who would be interested in their products and why. Final Deliverables included creating a logo, poster, brochure, wall design and hangtags. All these designs had the same fun handmade illustrations throughout to really bring out the imagination side of their work.
Logo Revision
When recreating the OTOTO logo, I thought back to my research and there happened to be a common trend. OTOTO is very fun, colorful and playful, and that is exactly what I wanted for the logo. To be different and fun, so I played with the arrangement of the O’s in the word OTOTO until I discovered a little face staring back at me. That was when I knew I had to turn the logo into an animal, because they are known for using different animals to create their one of a kind novelty kitchen ware.
Patterns
To go with the new adorable logo, I wanted to create supporting patterns I could use through out this project. I was inspired by their products of course, they have the cutest silhouettes. I thought it would catch the attention of both new and returning customers because once you see these characters you are drawn to them and want to know exactly what products they belong to.
Brand Extension
OTOTO Backdrop
With OTOTO making appearances at several exhibitions a year, I thought it was only appropriate to have a wall backdrop that displayed a variety of their products. The wall design had the stylization that matched the poster that was outside the building.
OTOTO Poster
This poster is promoting an exhibition that OTOTO attends and sells their products exclusively. I wanted their most popular character, Nessie, to be the main focal point with fun illustration in the surrounding area.
OTOTO Brochure
This brochure works as an extension to previously created items. I took some of their most popular products and featured them here along with a fun description telling the story of the character. As well as including reoccurring illustrations.
